Why would you throw a sandbag? Well, if you have ever loaded or unloaded a truck full of sandbags, you will know that you indeed find yourself sometimes in need of throwing a sandbag. The stronger you are the better, and you can get some really good distance on your sandbag throw, but how fast can it go?

The speed at which you can throw a sandbag depends heavily on the weight of the bag and the individual's strength, but a typical person might throw a standard sandbag at a speed of around 20-30 miles per hour (32-48 kilometers per hour) with a good throwing motion; elite athletes could potentially throw significantly faster depending on the bag weight.

Typically, stage technicians or production staff do not consider themselves “elite athletes,” but I am sure that in a sandbag throwing contest, those dressed all in black can certainly be “heavy” competitors.
